Hillary Goes Negative...on Martin Luther King, Jr!!! [UPDATED]

Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 01:12:29 PM PDT

Oh, boy...

Trying to keep up here "words vs. action" argument, Hillary flubbed it big-time:

"Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act," Clinton said. "It took a president to get it done."

Oy...I am pretty sure she just said MLK was simply a talker and only the "experienced" white man, LBJ, could get anything done.

I am sure this will play well in the AA community.

More, from Ben Smith:

Clinton rejoined the running argument over hope and "false hope" in an interview in Dover this afternoon, reminding Fox's Major Garrett that while Martin Luther King Jr. spoke on behalf of civil rights, President Lyndon Johnson was the one who got the legislation passed...But it seems an odd example for the argument between rhetoric and action, as there's little doubt which figure's place in history and the American imagination is more secure.

Now don't get me wrong, LBJ was a great, progressive Democrat.

But do you really want to be running against MLK right now?  Also, does she really think it is a good strategy to remind people that Obama is the natural inheritor of MLK's legacy?

I think the wheels feel off the Hillary bus a while ago...

UPDATE:

Hillary's national lead is officially gone.  First Rasmussen, now this:

Obama--33
Clinton--33
